This year was no different. The stockings are opened while we wait, the turkey is bundled into the oven, then we race into the bedroom and plead with him to get out of bed!
before long, the presents are unwrapped, the christmas outfits are on display and we are almost ready to sit down to eat the biggest plate of food that we are likely to have all year!
This year for us, was to be a little different to usual. Our two best friends, as well as my Mom & Dad, were joining us for the day. We all crammed as much food into our mouths as we could and as always, no one managed all of their Dinner! The completely ‘not needed’ yet utterly delicious, traditional home made (by my Mom) Christmas puddings were served, along with the most divine tasting M&S custard. Homemade cheesecake and chocolate roulade also managed to find their way onto our plates and funnily enough, these were not left. Oh no, these were devoured in seconds!
Finally, after we had finished our feeding frenzy and cleared away the evidence of our glutenous meal, we decided to play a game. The game was inspired by a “Guess the Star” guessing game in our box of Christmas Crackers!
Most of us had seen the names that came in the box, so we decided to make up our own. This practically free game was a huge success! I was completely rubbish, my ‘bff’ wasn’t much better! The girls weren’t too bad at all, in fact my eldest daughter had us in absolute stitches with her comments! The men were annoyingly rather good at it, but the winner, by a mile, was my Mom! My younger daughter’s boyfriend arrived at about 5pm and we were still playing the game! He joined in too, but wasnt’ very good! The laughter though continued, until we had exhausted every famous Star’s name that we would possibly be able to guess.
As the day drew to an end and our guests retired to their homes, I sat down with a satisfying feeling of contentment. It had been a lovely Christmas Day.
