It is my dream, that one day, when we are not too old, my Hubby and I will move someone nice & sunny. France would be beautiful but I can’t see me convincing him of that! Spain would be lovely, a nice little finca in the mountains would be my perfect place, beautiful weather, gorgeous food, friendly locals pottering around. Somehow though, I don’t think he would be keen on this option either!
The shortlist, therefore, consists of one little Island. An Island that we have visited many times and keep going back to year after year, after year. The island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. If we are lucky enough to move to this Island, the town of Lajares is where I would like to settle. It is the most beautiful little village with all the facilities one needs! Basically, it has a school, a supermarket, a chemist, a gym, a couple of cafe’s, about 6 restaurants, a sprinkling of gorgeous white Villas and a simple Volcanic and Dessert like landscape that takes my breath away, every time I visit. It is 5 minutes from the beautiful quaint fishing town, El Cotillo on the north of the Island. this intimate little town is home to some of the best surf on the Island. It is also only 10 minutes by car, to Corralejo. Fuerteventura’s main tourist town, that actually isn’t very big or touristy at all if you compare it to the other Canary Islands.
The idea of waking to sunshine almost every day is more than a little appealing! My hubby has quite a few hobbies, most of these are restricted to the summer months in the Uk due to icy roads and freezing cold waters! On this Island however, he could surf, drive his retro cars, ride his bikes or anything else he wants to try, all year round. All of the things that in soggy old Blighty, one can only dream of.
Well maybe one day my dream will come true and maybe it won’t. For now I will be content with sitting and waiting for clear blue skies, so that I can walk along on Autumns crunchy golden leaves. I will wrap up nice and snuggly and smell the fresh Autumn air and hope that one day I can say ‘Goodbye’ to soggy old Blighty!
